In our increasingly busy world, designing a home that supports overall health and wellbeing has become essential. Designing for wellness isn’t limited to dedicated spaces, it’s about creating moments throughout the home that support both physical and mental wellbeing. Thoughtful planning, natural materials and purposeful spaces all contribute to a calmer, more intentional way of living.

Sauna Spaces

A sauna can be one of the most effective additions to a wellness-focused home. Infrared models, such as the Sunlighten Believe two-person sauna, are compact yet highly functional, making them easy to integrate without compromising valuable floorspace.

In our recent Landmark Custom design project, LUME House, the sauna was positioned beneath the staircase in the basement entry, transforming what could have been dead space into a daily-use wellness zone.

Placement and routine are key considerations. Locating a sauna near a home gym or flexible multipurpose room encourages regular use, allowing wellness to become part of the home’s natural rhythm. With a modest footprint and clean architectural lines, a sauna can sit quietly within the broader design language while serving as a gentle reminder to prioritise wellbeing.

Home Gyms

Home gyms are increasingly becoming purposeful wellness spaces, rooms designed to support movement, routine and recovery. Whether used for yoga, pilates or strength training, a considered layout with integrated storage and calming finishes creates a dedicated zone that enhances wellbeing and aligns with the rhythms of everyday life.

Bringing Nature Indoors

Biophilic design, the practice of strengthening a connection to nature, is central to considered wellness space. Strategically placed natural light, indoor planting and framed landscaped views create moments of calm throughout the day. Natural material choices such as timber, stone and woven textures reinforce a tactile connection to the outdoors, making each space feel grounded and intentional.

Lighting and Mood

Lighting shapes atmosphere and supports wellbeing. Layer natural light with warm, ambient tones to guide different moments, energising mornings, slower evenings or quiet spaces for reflection. Subtle shifts in lighting can transform the mood of a room and support a more mindful daily rhythm.

By integrating movement, calm and nature into your interiors, your home becomes more than a place to live, it becomes a sanctuary.
